Acupuncture is not painful. Acupuncture is performed with hair-thin needles that do not resemble the pain felt from hypodermic needles. Patient’s often fall asleep and are in deep relaxation on the table.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST TREATMENT?

Our doctor will take a complete health history and establish a complete evaluation of the condition you are seeking treatment for and ask you questions about your lifestyle. Your pulse will be taken, your tongue will be looked at, and specific meridians will be checked for tenderness. The initial treatment will may last between 1 and 1.5 hours. Follow up treatments are 1 hour.

CAN I RECEIVE ACUPUNCTURE WHEN I AM PREGNANT?

Acupuncture is safe during pregnancy and can help relieve many pregnancy and postpartum conditions. It is important to inform the doctor if you are pregnant because some acupuncture points are different when pregnant.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF ACUPUNCTURE?

One benefit of acupuncture is that it is a drug-free way to optimize health. People often develop a tolerance or the need for an increased dosage to achieve same results with drugs. This however does not happen with acupuncture. In addition, with acupuncture therapy the doctor is able to immediately examine your response to the treatment and adjust if necessary.

CAN I HAVE ACUPUNCTURE IF I HAVE A COLD/FLU?

Yes. It will be beneficial because acupuncture stimulates the immune system and may increase your resistance to viral or bacterial infection.

DO I NEED TO UNDRESS FOR THE TREATMENT?

The affected body parts will need to be exposed. If it cannot be due to the type of clothing you have on, or if you simply choose to you, there are clean, sanitized gowns available for both men and women in your own private room.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

This depends on a number of factors including your age, general health status and the condition being treated. Some patients have results in a few treatments (2 to 4) and other need long-term acupuncture care before major improvements set in. You can be assured that during the consultation and evaluation our doctor will tell you what to expect depending on your specific condition.
